.
.
....I thought it might be useful on this Christmas Day to recapture for you my thoughts regarding an incident that occured on the job this past week. Here is a post that I did on karen lenihan's home page .
.
I hope you will
find my sentiments and experience here useful. Here is a reproduction of those thoughts and the incident that I am referring to:
.
Today is Tuesday December 23, 2008
.
.
Vancouver, B.C. Webcams
.
.
....saw a rather gruesome scene on the job yesterday. I was coming out of a McDonald's right in downtown Vancouver at lunch time. As I was walking out of the store I heard a loud thunk. It was an accident, a person had been struck by a car just across the street from where I was standing. I missed viewing the actual impact, but as I looked over towards the alley I noticed how quickly people were responding to the person's plight. In less than a minute someone had phoned an ambulance while onlookers were placing their coats on the victim on the ground. I crossed the street as my work vehicle was parked in the lane where the vehicle who hit the person was located. I noticed that the victim was a young woman; blood was dripping off her head and her whole body was shaking. She was lying in the snow and ice in the middle of the street. I proceeded to walk to my vehicle. There was nothing that I could do of course as there were already many people helping to comfort the young woman. I thought of Karen as I witnessed this accident. She must deal with this kind of stuff all of the time. The blood and the pain and the whole works. She must be used to it and would most likely deal with this kind of thing in a very professional manner. It would just be part of her job, just like mine is delivering letters. It is just something you do. I jumped into my vehicle and got on with my job. I thought of this young woman and how life changes so quickly for us. Her Christmas would be ruined and her loved ones would be devastated. The only reason that I witnessed this gruesome scene is because I decided to leave the lineup that I was in inside the McDonald's store. I had to leave the lineup to perform my job, which was more important than feeding my gut and buying a coffee. And, this is what I experienced as a result of that decision....I know that this is not much of a Christmas present, me telling you a story like this. But, in a way, it is something to think about on Christmas. That is what Christmas should do anyway; it should make you stop and think just how lucky you are to be alive. Because being alive is something that you cannot always count on from one minute to the next...
.
...remember, if there is a God, He or She might not necessarily love you. So, I think it is better to love yourself and maybe someone else as well. If you do this, at least you will be able to derive some meaning and purpose for this thing called life......

..a note about Father Coughlin. I have only recently discovered this interesting public figure. He was wildly popular during his day and spoke out about the excesses of capitalism. Some criticize him as being anti-Semitic, and in fact, he was denied public access on account of his views. He denies his anti-Semitism and blames his critics for this obfuscation or misinterpretation of his views. If anything, he was against atheism, and hence his distaste for communism. He also concluded that the international bankers were atheists and supported Nazism over communism as a consequence. Think of this idea as a lesser of evils type of approach for the Father. This would most likely be the source of any possible anti-Semitism charge against him. But, in listening to the man I think you will find a sincere man interested in social justice, based upon the teachings of Jesus Christ. I think Father Coughlin is a timely figure for us, as we are now experiencing similar conditions ourselves as to what occurred in the thirties of the last century; we are entering depression-like conditions, and, as then, many fingers are pointing to the international bankers as a source of our problems. So, it is easy to understand the connection of something like the Federal Reserve Bank ( the Father criticized this institution ) and of its role as a cause of our current financial dilemma...

For example, in lieu of presents and educational projects, the Director may decide to purchase a meal and drinks for all of those present at the racetrack festivities. This would be considered an appropriate use of racetrack profits made on behalf of Karen. Racetrack profits are not always earmarked for presents or projects and it may be decided instead to hold a party for those in attendance. This party would act as a gift for Karen. The celebration in her honor would have the same effect as purchasing a gift for her. Qualityis@shaw.ca Man marries his cat

Added on May 4, 2010. Here is a little tidbit I thought you might enjoy. It is an article about a man marrying his cat. Her name is Cecilia. There is even a picture of her in the article. I laughed to myself when I read this article as I hope you will too. Why do I insert such an article as this here? Because I am a former cat man as Karen is a former cat woman. So, we have something in common. Who do you think Boo Baydala and Trixi Lenihan are? Why they are cats of course. What else could they be? See link below to article:

God as a consolation prize
.
by Carl Baydala
.
.
You know what I have learned about life so far? I have learned that you can't always have the things you want. I think that is a given. But, you know what the consolation prize is? The prize is that you can keep on believing that it is going to happen. Now, a consolation prize indicates a degree of failure I suppose. In the game of life, however, I think the consolation prize is actually not a bad prize at all. It might represent a degree of failure or some kind of a loss, but it also represents a certain degree of hope too. That is exactly what believing in God is too - it is wishful thinking at its best. Belief in God is another sort of consolation prize. It is something you get to believe in when you cannot have the real thing. So, God is a pretty good thing if you think of that way. What do you think?

How God Teaches us about Love

.
How God Teaches us about Love
.
by Carl Baydala
.
A perplexing and growing problem for modern man is the realization that God does not love everyone. Perhaps you are one of those people and can feel the pain of His non-love for you. Alternatively, you may feel blessed that you know God and can therefore feel His love for you.
.
How do you know if God loves you or not? Most people who live without the love of God already know that He does not love them. Others simply live not even realizing this fact. For the believers in God of course this is not an issue. But, for the non-believers it can be a cruel revelation - a revelation that brings the very idea of God into question.
.
The discerning mind will know of course that conditions cannot be otherwise. It is not possible for God to love all people all of the time. This is just the way He conducts his business. It is in fact a simple business decision for Him to act in this way. The believers feel blessed of course knowing that God loves them, while the non-believers and the un-loved simply have to accept their fate. Why did God choose to act in this way? God chose to act this way in order for us humans to understand the very concept of love itself. One cannot know something without knowing its opposite. It is the simple construct of meaning. Human beings are simple creatures and meaning for them comes only through experience. To take the example of love, God had to provide examples of love and non-love all at the same time. Simply put, if God loved everybody then nobody would understand what hate or non-love was. And, no one would truly understand or be able to feel love. That is why he created religion and those religions which stress his love for some and not for others.
.
The un-loved should not feel the pain of rejection and think that God does not love them. Think of this way: God decided that it would be wise to create men as well as women. These things are opposites, but while being opposites they are attracted to one another. But, they are not attracted to each other by the simple virtue of their differences. God made them come together by the mechanism of lust or sexual attraction. Why did God do this? Well, if God did not create lust then man and woman would simply stare at one another and wonder just what each others purpose in life was. Lust gives purpose to life and that is why we should support and believe in this very important attribute of man.
.
So, you can see now why God decided to love some and not others. While He created love and lust He had to go further and provide the mechanism that would allow a human understanding to occur. Some religions say that God loves all. But, do not believe these people for they are espousing false doctrine. It is not possible or feasible for God to love all. It would ruin his plans for the universe and His creation and purpose for man. All men and all women are capable of lust - it is part of their inner being. All men and all women want love, but all of them cannot have it in the ways that others experience it. It is a desired thing, but it is not meant for all. Perhaps this is why the Hebrews created their God Jehovah and had a special relation with Him. He would provide love for them, but not for others. I think this is the simplest way to understand just how God really works in the human mind.
.
Why did God do this? God did this to teach us about fairness. I think that is the most likely explanation for the way the world is set up according to man. If you are on the end of things which excludes love and perhaps entertain a non-belief in the very idea of God then you are very knowledgeable about unfairness and thoroughly understand this thing. You will know about unfairness by virtue of the fact of your treatment by others. If you are one of the people that believes that God loves then you do not really know about fairness because you will not know of its opposite, which is unfairness. And, you do not really know about love either. You may feel love and lust but your meaning of the thing is limited by your experiences. That is because you cannot truly feel something or know what it means if you do not know its opposite.
.
I think God works in very mysterious ways. And, the people who He does not love are truly blessed indeed. The un-loved are the ones with the experience to know the difference. They desire to have something which is not readily available to them. You will not be able to know God and love if you are not able to experience the opposite of these things. And, you will not be able to appreciate what life really has to offer if you do not desire something. A man without desire is not a human being. It is like a man who lives without lust in the midst of his opposite. What would be the point of having an opposite if you could not desire it? And, if you did not desire it then why does it exist? Think of it this way: once man discovered the idea that it was possible to live forever that it is when he came to desire it. If it did not exist in his mind then it would have no meaning and it would not be desired.
.
The lust which I referred to above and which brings male and female together is truly a marvelous creation. I believe that man uses this physical gift to bring forth his other desires as well. I believe that lust is the catalyst of all human desire, mental and physical. So, you can see now just how God teaches us about love. He gave us lust and He made us desire by creating opposites. But to really know these things that He provides requires a degree of unfairness and a wanting. For in the wanting is the knowing. The wanting is the breeding ground of desire; it is the opposite that needs to be felt before meaning can be acquired.

Remember the morning of Friday November 22, 1963? Well, I do and I was at junior high school in North Burnaby, B.C. Canada. The school was named Kensington Junior Secondary. I was 14 years old. We got the rest of the day off after hearing of the assassination.

The mainstream media does not like to remind you about these kinds of things, just like they do not like to talk about 9/11. I think that is a pretty telling story in itself.

Consciousness is the key

.
.
Consciousness is the key
.
by Carl Baydala
.
I believe the key to the mystery of life is to be found in truly understanding consciousness, or thinking. Thinking or comprehending is something that we all do all the time. But, it is also something that nobody really knows anything about. At its most base level, thinking or consciousness is really just the human being's way of experiencing reality. The only reality that man will ever know is that one which is produced inside of his mind. Reality and consciousness is how man knows the world. Consciousness or thinking can be thought of as a way in which man's environment presents itself to man.
.
Somewhere in the development of man he developed a brain that performed this vital function for him. We can think of the brain as man's most useful tool for survival. If man did not possess a brain he could not figure out anything at all. He would simply perish without the ability of some device which allowed him to live and to survive. The brain is that thing. It is the part of man's physical make-up that allows man to identify with himself and those things that surround him.
.
Man lives on a physical earth in a physical universe. He is connected in his solar system to the very thing that gives him life, namely the Sun. He knows just how important this thing is and that is why he has created gods to worship this thing as well. In fact, much of man's religious history is based on this great ball of fire. And, that includes the religion of Christianity and many of its forebearers. All of these religions knew how important the Sun was for the continued existence of life on earth as we know it. When the Sun goes out then we all die.
.
The Sun, therefore, is key I believe to understanding man and his consciousness. And, I would have to say that, logically, they are the same thing. It can be no other way. Think about it. And, I am asking you to think about the word think. Because to think is to be conscious, conscious of what you are doing at this moment in time. You are feeling your reality; you are in touch with your environment and it is affecting you, in many ways, and at all times. That is what an environment does. And, what a brain does is to let you know how you feel about all of the things that an environment is doing to you. And, so it must be with the Sun as well. And, just what do I mean by that you might enquire?
.
A Sun is a finite thing just like the earth and all of the creatures that live upon earth. By finite I mean that one day its existence will come to an end as we know it to be right now. One day a Sun will burn up all of its energy and it will, simply, die. There will be no more light and heat. And, the things that the Sun caused will be no more. Man as we know him to be on earth, will die. That is how important the Sun is for the existence of man. So, we might say therefore, that man is really part of the Sun. For he could not have come into existence without this thing. In a way then, the Sun is man's creator and not God as we know Him to be. Once again, that is why the religions of man worship this thing that we have come to call - the Sun.
.
Given the above, we need to believe that the Sun has the ability to think, just like man does. Why is this so you may ask? Because it is logical that it is so. It can be no other way. If man is a thinking creature then so must his creator be as well. The Sun is man's creator and it is a physical mass such as man. It is composed of heat and energy in the highest forms, and it gives off bright light. And, man is a physical creature composed of materials such as found on the sun, and is filled with heat and with gases and chemicals. All of these come together to form the consciousness of man. So, consciousness is just really the many interconnected parts of man, and thinking is the chemical reaction of this meeting. It is the byproduct of what a human being does during the course of his existence. There is no other way to understand this thing that we call thought than in the way that I have presented it to you.
.
And, if the Sun is the beginning of all of the things that we have to know then it must be doing a lot of thinking on its own accord as well. That great ball of fire that we see in the sky is the result of all of the goings on inside of the Sun. The heat and the light is the result of the 'living' thing that we know as the Sun. It is the consciousness of the thing and is its thought. We know therefore how the Sun thinks since we are mere children of that thing. I believe this to be the key to life and of its understanding. The Sun shines and we know what it says. It tells us that it is a living thing such as its children are, which is you and I. And, that is what I mean when I say that consciousness is the key - it is the key to understanding.

The Hidden Story of Jesus
.
.
The following video is about Jesus Christ other famous religious figures. For those who think that the story of Jesus was an original idea, this film may cause you to have some doubt about that. I certainly am not sold on the Jesus concept, or even Christianity - or even traditional forms of religion. To me, the whole thing is mythology, and the sooner we free ourselves from this kind of religion the happier all of us will be. That being said, however, there is a greater story being told here as well, I think, and that is that love and understanding are important things which reveal themselves as main themes in organized religions. Organized religions such as Christianity and others are only portraying ideals which all men subscribe to, and I believe that they are only capitalizing on them. In this film you will learn the following things:
.
800 years before the birth of Christ lived the Indian Hindu god Krishna. The story surrounding the child Krishna is very similar to that of Jesus Christ. Krishna performed miracles just like Jesus. To a Hindu, Jesus is the same thing as Krishna, he is an incarnation of God. Krishna even sounds like Christ. To the Hindu Jesus represents purity, the infinite, and eternal. Hindus accept Jesus, but Christians remain intolerant toward the idea of Krishna. The story of Jesus Christ is not unique in history, however.
.
Another Indian religious figure who performed miracles, started his ministry at 30, and walked on water, was Buddha. He questioned religious authorities and spoke in parables. Jesus taught the way and the life, as did Buddha. Buddha knew of the great suffering of mankind and he contemplated this condition. His answer was for all men to search for happiness as did Jesus, as this is the preferred state of man. This is my personal philosophy as well, so I know of what the man was searching for. According to Buddha man could reach enlightment by being moral and seeking wisdom, similar to following the ways of Jesus and entering the Kingdom of Heaven. In this film you will learn of the numerous similarities between Buddhism and Christianity.
.
My immediate reaction to this video and its relation to Christianity is that religion is something that appeals to the human emotions, and this is why stories about babies being born to virgins in desperate situations makes good script; it is a good story.

What is love?

.
.
What is love?
.
by Carl Baydala
.
.
.
....just a reminder that my 25th ( Silver ) Anniversary is coming up on October 7th
.
.
.
You will recognize from my recent post about hate that I really do not know much about that topic and that is why my meaning is perhaps, not as precise as it could be. That is because I do not feel the emotion of hate very often, whereas, I live continually in a state of love. And, I don't know how many people can legitimately make that claim, but I for one, certainly can.
.
So, what is this thing that we call love then? Love is primarily something that we call an emotion, but it is also a state of mind as well. It is that state of mind that allows us to feel good about ourselves and the things that surround us. It is therefore that thing that can produce a positive attitude in a person, and therefore it is a state of mind worth pursuing by all mankind. Love is truly the grandaddy, or grandmother of emotions, if you are a girl of course. Love and Hate are the heavyweights of the emotions. Opposite ends of competing emotions. Sort of like good and evil competing for your soul. But, the emotion of love always prevails over that of hate, and for a very simple reason of course. The reason, or reasons, are basic to human nature. Man is a selfish creature which I have indicated to you numerous times in the past. That means that he would rather live in a state of happiness versus one of despair. That is the simple explanation and the best. Why feel hate when you can feel love and feel better about yourself and your beloved, and the world all at once? That is why love triumphs over hate.
.
Love then is that emotion that finds its natural home in man; it is the natural and preferred state of man. And, I believe that all men seek out love as well. We see it everywhere, from the simple wanting to belong to a group all the way up to the fervent seeking of a loved one that one truly desires. The object is the same; it is the wanting of being near to something that makes you happy and desirous to be alive. Love does that. It is a natural compulsion of man to seek out love in all of its forms. Man needs love to belong, to something, and to acquire a natural meaning out of life.
.
Once man obtains love, real love that is, he does not so easily let it go. Nor should he. He should not let go because he may never find this thing again in the form that he has discovered it. That is why some people cling to the love of certain things because they know of the value of the thing that they have found. I told you at the beginning that I live in a continual state of love. That means, necessarily, that I live in a state of happiness as well. I have learned of the things that man desires and the things that he needs. Love is the most important of those things as it adds to his well being and provides meaning for him. The ultimate purpose of life may be death, but that does not mean that man may not experience the best that life has to offer. I would call that thing love. For love is the knowing that you are experiencing the very best that life has to offer - it is the best of all the choices and provides the most desirous condition that man can experience. That is what the emotion of love really is.
.

.
Love comes in many forms. Here is a quote from the article below. The article is about vice-president Dick Cheney, and love:
.
No," Cheney continued. "No, 9/11 is about the warm feeling you get when you help an elderly woman cross the street and then whisper to her that the terrorists can strike at any moment. 9/11 is about the satisfaction of telling people to do things and then them doing it—not because they want to, but because they are afraid to do otherwise. 9/11 is about removing Saddam Hussein from power. But most of all, 9/11 is about love." karen t.

What is Hate?

.
.
What is Hate?
.
by Carl Baydala
.
Hate can be described as a reaction to something that you dislike or are offended by. It can also manifest itself as a human emotion that one experiences when one lacks the power to achieve an objective, such as for example, the attainment of something that one has determined to have great value or importance. You cannot describe hate adequately unless you have experienced it; you need to feel it. Hate, therefore, is much more than an abstract thing. It is a powerful emotion and a way that a human being can experience something like anger. A condition emitting hate needs to be felt in its entirety before you can give it a proper name and meaning. And, I think you will find, that upon examination, that hate can truly be an individual thing in term of its meaning.
.
Hate can be an expression against an idea or a person. Hate is also a form of human weakness or, as stated above, an indication of a lack of power. The feeling of hate may even involve simple misunderstanding or ignorance. One hates when one does not understand or is powerless to achieve an objective, such as for example, the love of another person. Weakness is also attributed to hate in the sense that one is not able to understand the origins of his hate. An individual may not have taken the time to analyze why he feels the emotion of hate. But, weakness is also evident in a discussion of hate when one is not willing to confront his emotion of hate in any kind of reasonable manner or to take steps to remove the hate or anger from his life.
.
It has been stated that hate is the opposite of love. These are both emotions which appear at the opposite poles of one another. If you have studied philosophy you will have discovered that much is explained by studying opposites. A fuller meaning of something, for example, is gained by knowing what it is not, as well as what you think something is. For example, our notion of love leads us to believe that it involves considerations of well-being, while hate would involve some form of misery and something unpleasurable. Therefore, one could surmize that after studying love and its attributes that love is a good thing, while its opposite, hate, is something bad.
.
How might enmity arise in the life of an individual you may enquire? As a child you may have hated your parents for depriving you of something that you desired. Or, perhaps later on in life you took on the feeling of hate when someone did not return their love to you - a love that you desired but could not obtain. You were struck by hate because you were powerless to achieve an objective. Therefore, the person you actually loved may have become an object of hate. But, this is not always the case of course, that hate as we have come to know it, is the necessary result of not receiving desired love.
.
Perhaps, sometime in your life you encountered a person or an idea that you felt uncomfortable with. Maybe some religion or a person of another race had a negative effect upon you. This abstract thought or this real person became a source of enmity for you because they did not agree with you or because you thought you were better than them, or perhaps they thought they were better than you. There arose an intense conflict between you or an idea. And, the problem remained unresolved because you rejected the idea as inappropriate or inadequate or just plain old wrong. It went against your idea or understanding of things. Hate entered the picture because you knew that you did not have the power to alter another person's view, or you did not have the power to make someone else like or even accept you. The emotion of hate was the reaction that you experienced through disagreement and lack of resolution. It also occurred because you had a desire to be in a winning position which was not obtainable.
.
So, hate is a human weakness that has its roots in power. The question arises of course: how does one achieve power to achieve one's objectives if that is what one would like to do? Some people know intuitively that the power that they seek is not achievable, but continue to seek the unattainable, and live a life of misery, and perhaps even one filled with hate.
.
The other option of course is to accept the fact that the object of desire is not possible, nor worthwhile achieving; it is simply not worth the effort. Therefore, one may decide to accept this lack of achieving an objective and live with one's weakness that is related to this object of desire. I believe that this is the course that most people take when they are confronted with a situation that involves power that cannot be achieved.
.
Realistically, they know that it is not worth the effort of attaining something that is not really attainable. That could be the love of another individual or the acceptance in society of another person of another race or religious affiliation. Most of us have been rejected by the opposite sex and we simply accept the circumstances and move on. Another example of acceptance might be a situation where one is involved in a road rage situation or any kind of argument in any number of social settings. Most of these conflicts involve hate that is quickly evaporated because each party knows that it is not worth the effort to continue on in a hateful situation. Why bother?
.
But, there may arise a situation in one's lifetime that involves hate that is not so easily manageable. I am thinking of conditions that involve unrequited love or the ongoing racial hatred of groups or of those who are on opposite sides of religions or political viewpoints. These things are not so easily fixable because the roots and the winning or gaining the upper hand in them are so important to the participants. They love what they love and they know that these things are not attainable. Yet, they still desire them. Or they want their viewpoints to prevail over others. But, the condition is the same: one will not let go because of the overwhelming importance of the objective and prize involved.
.
You may want to ask yourself at this point a couple of questions. Why does one hate another race or believe so strongly in some religious or political point of view? What are the true origins of the conflict? Why racism or religious dogmatism or steadfast political views? Why continue to love someone who does not love you back? Why continue to do things which cause hate and are not resolved by you alone? Why get involved in things which are so powerful that they cannot be controlled or brought into your domain of manageability? I refer again to the notion of weakness. I believe the person afflicted with hate is essentially weak, weak in the sense of not accepting the fact that not all things in love or in disagreement are possible or achievable. You cannot always get your own way and not everyone thinks the same or is interested in the same things. Life would be so simple if things were this easy now wouldn't they? You simply sit someone down and explain these kinds of issues to a person and all the problems are solved. Except we know of course that life is not so simple. And, that is because some people will not accept reality as it is presented to them. Now, it is easy to condemn, but the asute observer will recognize that we accomplish nothing by doing this. We simply alienate the person who we are trying to explain things to; that person who we would like to help with the elimination of his hate. We are trying to teach him understanding through reason.
.
The problem with hate, however, is not so simple. Hate means different things to different people as I have hinted above. Most likely the person to whom you are talking to already knows the things that you are attempting to explain to him. So, this is not the right approach at all. Remember, he is fully aware of his weaknesses and his lack of power to achieve his objectives. This is not the issue at all. Now, you might both agree to let bygones be bygones and all the rest. Religion is religion and so is politics; it is a many faceted thing, loaded with all kinds of different believers. And, similarly with the races. They are different and some of them rub certain people in certain ways. Some people will always hate certain people I believe, perhaps because it is not in their interest to understand or accept other persons or other cultures. There is no harm in trying of course. Sometimes, however, all we can do is to separate these people and hope they do not interact with one another and cause each other harm.
.
But what about the problem of love; the desire for something which is not attainable? Our subject knows that he is weak and is operating with little or no power. But, he accepts his fate because of the overwhelming desire to achieve his objective of mutual love. He lives with his hate, which is not really hate of course, or that is how he rationalizes it anyway. It is just an expression of his reaction to his non-receipt of love. He lives with an emotion that has transformed itself into something completely different from what we commonly know as hate. It may in fact be a brand new emotion. A mixture of something that occurs as a result of his unique experiences. What we have determined of course is that our subject is actually a rationalist, so he may not be the weak person that we think he is. And, we will most likely come to the very same conclusion as our subject; that is why his condition will persist because it is not solvable in the traditional way of solving things. He has determined to solve this problem in his own way. He has turned his hate, if it ever was that of course, into simply: an acceptance of non-love. That is his way of making it more palatable and more manageable.
.
In a way, he has already accepted the reality of the situation. It is not a totally unrealistic approach that he has taken. He may be weak to allow his negative emotions to continue, but he has accepted this condition. Can we not surmize then that it is not really a form of weakness at all, especially when you consider that his hate is not really hate, but simply his expression and reaction, and acceptance, to that thing that he calls: unachievable love? And, could we not further assume that what he is feeling is more the condition of love and not that of hate? And, that is how we would describe his emotion to a foreign observer if we were called upon to do so? I believe that this is a condition that we should consider as valid, and that we should use this analysis to further our understanding of the word hate and how it is interpreted in different ways by different people.
.
What I have attempted to outline for you here are my thoughts on hate, and, more specifically, how I feel that the experience of hate is a very individual thing. I believe that a person's character or personality plays a role in how he confronts and manages potential hate in his life. In the personal example of love I attempted to show that love is a greater force than hate especially when that emotion is paramount and of vital importance to an individual. Hate takes a back seat as it were and becomes a non-issue. That means, of course, in the situation that I provided, the exerience of hate is not all that troublesome at all, especially when we see how it becomes subservient to the more powerful emotion of love. I think this is easily explainable though. Man would rather experience pleasant things over the less pleasant. So, if a person finds someone that he truly loves the issue of hate becomes manageable for him. And, as I have tried to point out, there may not have been any real hate evident in the first place. It becomes merely a topic for discussion, as it were. If a person did not truly love someone, then I am suggesting that the results regarding love and hate may prove to be different for different people. And, a person's character and background would most certainly enter the picture as a consideration.
.
I think the same principle can be applied to other forms of hate as well. People may be very much opposed to a certain political party or religious group in their community. The emotion of hate might come to the fore for whatever reason. But, I would suspect that an individual's character would have a lot to do on how he manages his potential hate regarding something that upsets him or her. Depending on the amount of hatred, that a political party can emit, for example, would be an expression of how much power a person felt he had to try and do something about the thing he did not like. He might simply feel that he has no power to affect change and therefore would eliminate this emotion from his life by simply forgetting about it. But, if the person is idealistic and hold values dear then the emotion of hate might not subside so easily. But, since he is most likely not in love with his political enemies either, his hate is not going to transform into anything nearly as equal for his love of someone that he desires. I would say that his hate, although most likely manageble, would take the form of something akin to a desire to see the end of his political enemy if one way or another. The emotion would be more closer to hate than to love in its expression, I believe.

In pursuit of the case against God,
or talking to rocks makes more sense
.
by Carl Baydala

.
I do not believe the idea of God is a viable one. My rational being instructs me to think otherwise and to attack the notion of God wherever and however I can. Everywhere around me I see no evidence of God or his work. All I see is nature at work, conducting her business in the best way that she knows how. And, that is in the natural way. By natural I mean to say that she does her business according to her laws; her natural laws. For lack of a better word then, let us call what we see about us: the laws of nature at work. I do not think any thinking man is going to deny the existence of nature and how she manifests herself. The problem for man, I feel, is that some men believe that there is something greater than this thing that we call nature, and they have used the term God to describe this thing that they cannot see, but only imagine. What we are dealing then is with something that has become to be known as an idea.
.
Man has the ability to create an idea. Some of the animals, I think you would agree have that ability as well. They simply do not convey these things to us at times, and if they do, some of us simply cannot intrepret their wills and their motivations. But, I believe that the animals, most notably our dogs and cats that we harbor as pets have many of the same abilities as man. These are thinking, feeling creatures just like man. And, so it is with many of the other life forms as well. I am thinking of the multitude of birds and all of the other land and sea animals. All of these creatures possess the ability to feel and to think and to act our their desires and their needs. They do these things in the interest of survival and of procreation.
.
The origin of the idea and of thought occurs in the mind of man. We call this thing consciousness that enables us to interpret our environment. The religious people seem to think that God gave us this ability to think and provided us with emotions and the like. Here is where I would like to argue with those who believe in the idea of God. And, I would begin my argument at the beginning and with a novel idea. I am of the opinion that matter can think, or that if taken together certain formulations of matter, through the development of time and luck, have developed the idea to think. I thought that I was posssibly the first to think of this idea, but of course I was not. Even the philosopher John Locke maintained the idea that matter could think.
.
But, here is my idea for what it is worth to you. All material thinkers such as myself believe in the primacy of matter over the idea. The idealist philosophers are the ones who would conjure up the idea of a God for you as an explanation for all things imaginable. Well, as you have pretty well guessed by now I am not a believer in idealism or its methods. I am quite convinced that all of the answers that we are seeking can be found in matter and the attributes and potential of matter and of its combinations.
.
Think of a plant conducting its business on earth. It utilizes the nourishment of the soil for its existence and relies on the sun for growth. All of these things are material things. None of these processes required an idea or a foreign intervention to achieve their goals. God did not give plants the go ahead as it were to conduct their business. They found out how to do it on their own, by pure simple luck and the combination of circumstances. Now, the human being is doing the same thing as a plant more or less, but it has added a few things to its repertoire of being able to live and to procreate. It has also, because of its added senses such as the ability to hear and to taste and to feel and to see, the ability to attain more meaning out of its environment. Can you imagine what the pretty rose would do with the addition of an eyeball, for example? Or perhaps an ear on its leaf? Would it be able to utilize these features to its advantage do you think? Could it produce more easily and perhaps enjoy its life a bit more than its fellow plants? Does it even require these additions to its makeup? Most likely not, but look at the things that it can accomplish just by appearing beautiful.
.
Man, and the other animals, as they developed, acquired numerous advantages over simple plant life. Plants and animals are different things I think you would agree. But, their commonality is that that they rely on the earth and sun for their existence. So, we can say that nature is truly at the heart of man's very survival. Without nature at work there would simply not be man or animal. The very notion of God is an afterthought to any thinking individual. We shall let the idealist struggle with this one for now.
.
I want you to think long and hard about the the very idea of consciousness and thought and what this thing really is. I believe that once you come to know and understand just what this thing is then you will be well on your way to becoming a materialist believer and philosopher. It can be no other way, I believe. I have hinted above how the simple plant fits into our ideas here. They are not the same thing as man and I do not believe that any plant actually thinks or maintains a conscience or feels love and pain and all the rest, but there is something similar, I think you would agree. Well, what is that something? As humans we do not believe that plants can 'feel' reproduction or enjoy the sex act ( maybe they can ), but it is doing something similar to man - it is transforming nature into something else, that is what it is doing. It is turning the heat of the sun and the very minerals of the soil into something that it can use. We call this process growing; it is growing into something else. Why do some flowers and animals become such beautiful things that us humans admire so much? What gave a plant the ability to produce such wonderful colors and to attract other things to it? The answer of course is nature, nature in all of its wonderful splendour and of its laws - its natural laws.
.
So, a plant may not have the mind that we have, but it is enjoying similar things to us; it is able to transform and make use of things that come naturally from its environment. Man does the same thing as the plant, but it also does much more than a plant. It has developed the ability to " think "about what it is doing. The human animal has even developed the ability to derive meaning from the whole business of nature as well. And, it does all of these things with its brain, which is its supplier of meaning. The complex piece of equipment that we call a brain is that thing which provides meaning for man. This thing is not an idea or a god, but something real. It is a piece of machinery if you will that can process all kinds of bits of information and turn those things into symbols that we can interpret and derive meaning from. Man can hear, see, smell, and touch. All of these abilities are involved in that complex process that translates things into intelligible pieces of information for man. Thought is essentially that thing that is telling man what he is feeling and thinking and why he is doing these things.
.
Thought is not something magical as the believers in God would have you imagine. It is not given by God for your pleasure and survival. Nature produced these things, just like all of the rest of the things that occur in nature and the universe. Yes, thought is matter and originates in matter because it can be nothing else. If idea produced idea you would never know about it because you could not feel it or see it or touch it. That is why the materialists are right and the idealists are wrong. It is simple logic. Were John Locke and myself right in our analysis of things? Can simple matter do the thinking that we require it to do? Can a rock think? I personally do not know if a rock can think because I am not able to communicate with a rock. I cannot even talk to a plant. Well, I can talk to a plant, but it might not answer me back. Believers in God talk to Him, but He does not answer either. That is what I meant when I said an idea cannot talk to an idea. And, that is what talking to God is all about. It is an illogical form of behavior. But, talking to a rock or a plant, or even a low level animal has different possibilities I think you would agree. If I am going to communicate with something, or something that has the possiblity of returning comprehension, then that something is most likely going to be composed of matter, and not simply an idea like God that will never attain the ability to communicate in the way that I understand communication and meaning to occur.
.
