Act Four: Scene Three

Setting: The Great Banquet Hall
.
The Marriage Ceremony in Juneau
.

Characters: Master of Ceremonies, Lord God Jehovah,
Justice of the Peace, Goddess Ida, Elana, Katy,

.
The marriage ceremony was halted because of a sudden earthquake. It is approximately 30 minutes later and no further damage has been sustained or reported. The tremors have stopped and the Katy and Carl have decided to continue on with the wedding as planned. The building is safe and nobody is injured in the quake. Everybody has decided to have a short break and to partake of coffee and drinks before continuing with the ceremony.
.
Back in Heaven, the assembled guests have experienced an unexpected delay. The large screens in the hall are currently blank. Attention is drawn to the Lord God Jehovah who is laughing and slapping Jesus' back. They are the centre of attention. There is chatter occurring throughout the hall. The fairies are busy attending to drinks and food during the delay. The Goddess Ida decides to visit Jehovah's table and have a few words with him.

Ida is walking quickly toward Jehovah's table with Matt, hand in hand. Chelsea is following closely behind. She reaches Jehovah's table and sits down beside Him.
.
Ida: " Sit down beside me Honey I want to talk to Jehovah. "

Jehovah's German Shepherd dog is glaring at Ida and begins to growl at her and then stops abruptly. Chelsea makes sure Ida is seated comfortably and then stands behind her.
.
Matt sits down beside her. But, he will not be able to hear the conversation between Ida and Jehovah. Ida is sitting next to Jehovah and looks directly into His eyes. Jehovah is still laughing.
.
Ida: " Go ahead and laugh Jehovah. Laugh all you want. You are not going to stop this wedding from taking place. Is that clear? "
.
Lord God Jehovah ( LGJ ): " Ida, Honey, relax. It was just a little joke. No harm done and no harm intended. A little earthquake. They are used to those kinds of things in Alaska. Nobody is hurt and nobody is killed. And, that means nowhere in the State as well."
.
Ida: " What are you talking about Jehovah? "
.
Jehovah laughed again.
.
LGJ: " Well, naturally Ida I assumed you would know that the whole State is feeling something of my work...are you not aware? "
.
Ida: " No I am not Jehovah and I don't really care about your work as you call it. I am only worried about tonight and what it means to Katy and Carl. Is that too much for your ego to handle? "
.
LGJ: " Well, you consider yourself a goddess with power. What are you worried about? A god or goddess with absolute power worries about nothing. And, I, the Lord God Jehovah worry about nothing and no one. Is that clear Ida? "
.
Ida: " You'd better believe it is clear Jehovah. It is as clear as I know what I am doing and what I am capable of. And, you can see what I am capable of. This marriage is going to continue and it is going to be consummated. Is that clear? "
.
LGJ: " You are unnecessarily combative this evening Ida. Relax and enjoy your wedding if you must. Let fate be on your side - if you dare. Yes, Ida destiny shall triumph on this day. Are we in agreement on that point? "
.
Ida: " Absolutely Jehovah. Destiny. Nothing else matters. Destiny and fate shall rule the day. "
.
Jehovah laughed again.
.
The voice of the Master of Ceremonies is heard while they are talking
.
Master of Ceremonies: " Ladies and gentlemen your attention please....
.
He waits for the noise in the room to subside and then continues on.
.
...ladies and gentlemen good news. Please everyone return to your seats as soon as you can. The wedding ceremony in Juneau is starting up again. "
.
Everyone returns to their seats and quiet quickly returns to the hall. All eyes are directed toward the large screens all of which are showing the hall where the marriage is being conducted. Earth voices are heard once again....
.
Ida and Matt do not move and remain at Jehovah's table as the ceremony continues in Juneau....
.
Justice of the Peace: " OK everybody let's carry on with the wedding. Everything will be all right. The radio says that most of the damage is up north. All of the volcanoes are acting up and lava is oozing all over the place, but there are no reports of serious damage or any loss of life. The experts are calling it very strange indeed. Multiple volcanoes erupting and molten lava in unheard of amounts, just gushing all over the place. But, once again no loss of life. Just nature acting up all at once they are saying.

Jehovah watching the screen has a big smile on his face.
.
Ida: " I guess the oozing volcanoes are a big thrill for you eh Jehovah? So typical. So Jehovah. "
.
LGJ: " I have my powers Ida. Let's see what you can do. "
.
Ida says nothing in response.
.
Justice of the Peace laughing: " OK now, where were we? Take two everyone! Katy, Carl, c'mon let's get going. Everybody, back to your seats let's move on. Everything is OK. The earthquake was a false alarm. "
.
Elana standing next to Katy in a corner of the room says:
.
Elana: " That must be what the rumblings were earlier on Katy. Earthquake rumbles. "
.
Katy: " Of course. That is what it was, we weren't hearing things after all.Don't worry Elana. It looks like we are going to start up again. Take your position and let's get going OK? "
.
Elana: " Sure, Katy whatever you say. "
.
Ida is thinking. She is in a desperate situation. She knows that Jehovah does not want the wedding to proceed and that He wants to show Ida who is boss once and for all. She also knows that just a few taps of Jehovah's fingers will get the earthquakes starting again. And, the louder he taps the more damage there will be. The wedding will be called off if the damage is too great to continue. Katy and Carl will not get married and her day in the sun will come to a grinding halt. She might even be the laughing stock of the universe if Jehovah is able to thwart her plans. She needs another great idea. Perhaps the best one of her career as a goddess. She needs something to trump Jehovah and to confront his power head on. She thinks.
.
The marriage ceremony continues. Everyone in Heaven is glued to the screens watching the event.
.
Ida moves closer to Jehovah and begins to talk. Jehovah is fixated on the ceremony.
.
Ida: " You know Jehovah, I have been thinking. I mean, your Earth Creation might not be such a bad idea after all, in spite of its shortcomings, I mean. I know that you are heavy into sex and physical love and that kind of thing. And, maybe that is not such a bad route to take now that I think about it a bit more....
.
Jehovah is listening, but He is not responding to her remarks
.
...I mean, I know that you had to work the concept of ego in there somewhere and combining it with sex was a certainly a clever idea. We do have to deal with this consciousness thing after all and if man had to become aware of his reality then maybe adding a sexual component was a decent and functional way of handling that detail. I suppose that having a physical base for a relationship has its merits after all. It could act as a starting point. I guess the real hurdle for man is to overcome this reliance on pleasure and realize why you introduced it. I guess if there was nothing to attract the sexes then they might not be able to continue on into eternity, which would be their destiny of course. Are you listening to me Jehovah? "
.
LGJ: " Are you trying to distract me Ida, or humor me perhaps? "
.
Ida: " Not at all Jehovah. I am just re-thinking what you have done on Earth, and well, I see some merit to the whole thing. "
.
LGJ: " So, what is your point Ida? "
.
Ida: " I want to make you a deal Jehovah, what do you think of that? "
.
LGJ: " What kind of a deal Ida? "
.
Ida: " Well, something that both of us can live with of course. "
.
LGJ: " Don't beat around the bush Ida, what is your proposition? "
.
Ida: " Well, you know that we both have great powers and I think we should respect each others powers don't you? "
.
LGJ: " I know what my powers are Ida, it is your powers that I think you should be concerned about. You think you can fool these people here tonight? Well, you go on and believe that if you want to. I think I know better and you can see the results of my work in front of you. Earth is a success and what I say goes. Do you have a better story than that? "
.
Jehovah is still glued to the screen.
.
Ida: " I am not denying your powers Jehovah. You have great control over Earth, anybody can see that. "
.
LGJ: " You're stalling Ida. What's your deal? "
.
She talks quietly so that Matt cannot hear her.
.
Ida: " Well, it's about Matt. I'm thinking of introducing the idea of physical sex to him. What do you think of that? "
.
LGJ: " Matt knows nothing at all about physical sex and lust? "
.
Ida: " Of course not. He is pure. He knows nothing of physical sex and lust. We have a unique relationship based on love and trust, happiness and beauty. He only understands the concepts that I endowed him with. The things that I talked about earlier.."
.
LGJ: " Is the man not capable of thinking for himself? "
.
Ida: " He is limited in his knowledge Jehovah. How can he know these things? If I was to introduce sex to him then our relationship would change in an instant. "

A smile appears on Jehovah's face.
.
LGJ: " So, why not introduce some excitement into the man's life? "
.
Ida: " Well, that is the bargain that I am proposing Jehovah. You allow Katy and Carl to live happily and not intrude in their life and I will introduce physical sex into Matt's life. "
.
LGJ: " So, what am I really getting out of the deal Ida? "
.
Ida: " You are getting recognition for your ideas on sex and physical love and everything that goes with it. I will take on the risk and deal with it as it affects my marriage with Matt. But, this must remain a private pact between You and I forever. "
.
LGJ: " So, what will you tell Matt. How will you explain it to him? "
.
Ida: " Well, just leave the details to me. I'll take care of it. That is my promise to you. "
.
Ida was aware of the dangers of introducing physical sex into her relationship with Matt. But, she had no choice. She had to risk her marriage, and hers and Matt's happiness for the sake of Katy and Carl, and her reputation as well. She would explain the whole thing to Matt and make him understand. Besides, it was destiny and she knew that. She would cross the bridges that she needed to cross when she encountered them. For now, the issue was Jehovah and what he was capable of doing. He needed to be pacified and she needed a sure fire way to protect her image in front of the crowd in Heaven. She was certain that Jehovah would agree. If she understood the concept of ego, and what propelled Jehovah into action.
.
LGJ: " So, you are acknowledging then that I have the power to ruin your wedding and to affect all of eternity and destiny. You accept the validity and scope of my powers? "
.
Ida: " Of course. But, if you accept my deal just look what you are getting in return. Everyone will continue to know that Katy and Carl, no matter what they believe or do, will continue to be influenced by your work. So, do we have a deal? "
.
She extends her hand to Jehovah hoping that He will accept her promise
.

Jehovah's mind is processing the words that Ida just spoke. He is in control and He knows it. Why should He give Ida anything at all and risk the chance of limiting his power? Yet, the crowd would know that He would have ruined the wedding and that would be held against Him. His character and motives would be questioned. Did He have the best interests of the universe in mind and what of destiny itself? How could even a god slap the face of destiny? destiny was that thing that guided and made all happen. But, something else occurred to Jehovah as well. Katy and Carl lived in an insignificant part of the world, they were isolated and what they were capable of doing to his ideas and influence would be limited. What could two people alone do to change the course of history and affect destiny? Furthermore, He concluded, if they were to start having any kind of an effect on the world He could quickly change the course of history. He was aware of His vast powers. He was not considered to be the Supreme God for nothing. He did have a track record after all. He knew what He had to do.
Jehovah extends his hand in return and shakes Ida's hand. And, at the moment of contact these words are heard:

Justice of the Peace: " Carl and Katy I now pronounce you Man and Wife. "
.
The crowd in Heaven cheered wildly once the wedding was completed. Music began to play and the mood was one of instant jubilation. Goddess Ida was smiling. She was a heroine and she bathed in her moment of glory. Destiny was being served.
